Another story lead from Kat.
Carmen Electra is really on a mission to get the world pole dancing for “health”. According to this blog post there are some talks about a Wii pole dancing game for fitness. I don’t think it will happen. And the logistics! I don’t know a ton about gaming, but I get the impression Nintendo is a feel good family system that won’t delve into anything sexual.
It doesn’t really sound so fun. Like many of these real life experiences that get moved into the online/game world (Guitar Hero, Rock Band, etc.) – there’s some sort of line that gets crossed at some point between fun recreation and just lame replacement of one activity for a subpar version of the same acivity. I think most folks exist in the recreational world, but a professional Wii pole dancer does not a live pole dancer make.
With pole dancing, isn’t it enough that people are doing it in gym classes? This seems like a plenty safe evironment to explore a new activity without having too many people watching. There are even exercise videos, so reasonably you can pole dance alone at home. If no one is there to watch, is pole dancing really pole dancing?
In this post on Monitor Mix, Carrie explores this idea related to music and Rock Band and Guitar Hero.
It’s an interesting concept to think about all the potential of the Wii for sexual expression. There was an April Fool’s Day joke about the Super Pii Pii Brothers – a pee game that used the Wii controller as a strap-on penis to aim for the toilet. Honestly, there has to be a game out there that uses the Wii control as a penis thrusting device? Isn’t that the secret goal of programmers everywhere?
Here’s the video of the Pii Pii game.

As an avid Rock Bander, I can tell you that I have the game to thank for helping me find my true calling. I know now that I am destined to be an all woman band, playing both the guitar and the drums, while singing. The pole dancing game is only going to help my stage presence, just watch!
Seriously though, you’re supposed to wear that safety strap when using the Wii controller, do you think to the pole will have a strap too? If the hand controller has the “danger” of flying off your wrist, imagine the potential damage your pole can have!
You have Rock Band!? You know…we’ll be in town soon…I’ve always wanted to play drums…
I was really excited about Rock Band at first and was all “leme play leme play” and “What?! We can do the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s?!”, but after like 5 songs or something I was DONE. Like I don’t really need to play it ever again.
But I totally would try a poll dancing game. Maybe I can join Kat’s band?!
“but a professional Wii pole dancer does not a live pole dancer make.”
But wouldn’t the auditions be fun? “Where’d you learn that?” “My Wii.”
My concern would be all the 12 year-old girls playing…
