the bigger the better

Various news outlets had a story the other day about this nude:
You see it just fetched a whopping $33 MILLION dollars- which supposedly is the most money spent for a painting by a LIVING artist. And it happens to be a nude. A extra curvy nude at that. It is called “Benefits Supervisor Sleeping” and was painted by 85 year old Lucien Freud (yes the grandson of THAT Freud), who some have called the “Britain’s greatest living realist painter”. A fancy pants magazine editor says about it:
“There’s a reaction against art that’s regarded as too pretty,” he said.
Hall said he thinks a more conventionally beautiful painting would not be able to fetch such a large amount.
“It’s the sort of thing that everyone immediately wants to voice an opinion about,” he said of the painting. “It challenges conventional taste … and people do find that rather exciting and interesting to talk about.”
But if you are a long time reader of this blog (2 months ago!), you would know that the most paid for a nude was a $39.7 million.

Check out this one…$13.5 million and hideous in my opinion. http://chelseaartgalleries.com/auctions/with?sale=S40&lot=9
It’s sort of nsfw. Is bad art safe for work?
